Good Luck from the Past and the Present
Lucky pennies in a water feature in Toronto with a Gingko leaf floating on the surface.
Gingko is one of the oldest living species in the planet. Pennies, on the other hand are growing extinct in Canada. They are no longer being produced by the government. At the cash register, the amount is rounded up or down, and pennies are not given as change.
There's still a time period where pennies will be legal tender. The same was done with the one dollar and two dollar bills in Canada. They are no more - coins are now used. They are cheaper to produce, difficult to counterfeit, and more efficient for businesses to process (e.g. vending machines).
